Thoughts about the flowers on Easter Sunday

On Easter Sunday the bare cross from Good Friday has been replaced by the light of the resurrection. The cross of Good Friday is ‘blown” to the side, the thorn crown is not any longer crowning the cross but is hanging to the side together with the shroud not any longer in use. The big stone, which sealed the grave, is removed, letting the good news (the light) of the resurrection radiate out into the world in form of the flower branches. The stone of the grave and rocks of Golgotha are covered with spring flowers, symbolizing a new beginning. Jesus has emerged as the prince of heaven.

The hope for a powerful new king entering Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, symbolized by the Palm branches on the floor, has been fulfilled in an unexpected and different way: the resurrection of the eternal and heavenly king of Easter Sunday. A new wisdom, gained through the journey from Christmas, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday triumphs over the worldly Palm Sunday expectations. Yes, “HE has risen, ALLELUIA.”
