Who We Are

Covenant Presbyterian Church is an all-inclusive family of faith whose mission is to live out Christ’s example of serving others, with a focus on worship, spiritual growth, fellowship, and outreach in the Athens community and the world.

One of Athens’ youngest Presbyterian Churches, Covenant was officially established in May 1966 with 33 members. Since the early days of organization, the membership has grown to nearly 350 confirmed members. Covenant Presbyterian is a member of the Northeast Georgia Presbytery, Synod of the South Atlantic, and the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA). The congregation reflects the rich diversity of the Athens community and all members are given an opportunity to share their gifts in Christian Ministry.

In 2015, the Session voted to join the Covenant Network of Presbyterians, a national coalition of congregations that seeks to articulate and act on the church’s historic progressive vision and to work for a fully inclusive church. It is Covenant’s mission to welcome all God’s people, and send a clear signal to all persons identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender that they will find acceptance at Covenant.
