Covenant's Ringing History

In the 1990s, while attending the Montreat Worship and Music Conference, Marcia Verbrugge and Sara Cooney were introduced to the sound and ease of ringing chimes.

Soon thereafter, Covenant acquired a starter set of Malmark chimes.  Betsy Burmeister was asked to direct the musicians who signed up to form the chime choir.  Over time, additional chimes were added that constitute the existing 4.5 octave set.

Chimers enjoyed 20 plus years of fun rehearsals and worshipful offerings under Betsy’s direction.

In 2019, Covenant received the gift of a new set of five octaves of Malmark handbells from the former Central Presbyterian Church.  Covenant chimers and Central ringers combined forces and instruments to form Covenant’s current handbell choir.
